Self Massage Techniques for Headaches and Migraines

WHEN YOU FEEL PAIN BETWEEN YOUR EYEBROWS OR AROUND YOUR EYES:
Rub your eyebrow bone. Push up with pressure, and release as you sweep lighter pressure out. In this case, I would start with your eyebrow then flow into your Temporalis muscle (the muscle on the side of your face between your eyes and ears).

WHEN YOU FEEL PAIN AROUND THE CENTER OF YOUR FACE:
Place both your index and middle finger on each side of your face at the cheekbone level. Massage with a short upward motion. Work from the edge of your face along the cheekbone towards the round part your nose.

Now, massage in a small clockwise motion, your motions will get smaller when you have less space to work on. Continue the motion as you massage upward along the edge of your nose towards the edge of your inner eye with your index finger. From there, hold the pressure for a few seconds.

Gently, slide up to that natural crease, just under the beginning of your eyebrow and hold the pressure again for a few seconds. Then slowly slide your index finger and middle finger, with a consistent pressure along your eyebrow bone, 3 times.

Now from the thin edge of your eyebrow to the thicker part, slide your index and middle finger slightly in an upward motion with the pressure you prefer. Repeat a few times and continue that small clockwise motion where ever you feel that tension. Alternate between your index and middle finger, or use both at anytime, whichever feels more comfortable.

WHEN YOU FEEL PAIN ON THE SIDES OF YOUR HEAD:
Rub your Temporalis, the muscle that’s spaced between your eyes and ears. Rub in a circular motion, starting with an upward pressure and let off as you circle down, then increase pressure as you motion upward again. Massage with this technique where you feel the pain.

WHEN YOU FEEL PAIN ON THE TOP OR BACK OF YOUR HEAD:
Try massaging the base of your head on the back. The area where your head and neck meet on both edge of your head. Rub in a circular motion. Repeat a few times. Then move on to rub all around the top of your head, as if you’re shampooing your roots really well! Apply the pressure you’d prefer.

*Do a combination of these and you get to work on more areas that add to your migraine.

Although, if you’d prefer letting someone else help you, check out a trained massage therapist. They will definitely have more techniques for you!
